History of the Rabbits In Our Hat Teen-Age Magic Club, Phoenix, Arizona, 1958. From the Laurence Parsons Collection.

Rabbits In Our Hat Junior Magic Club

History of the club name: When the original “Rabbits In Our Hat Junior Magic Club” was formed by Don Seth in the 1950's, Laurence Parsons was the Charter President. When the club was in its formative stages much attention was paid to what would be the official name. It was voted by the original members to be “Rabbits In Our Hat” − singular, as opposed to “Hats” plural. Why?

The reason given by Mr. Parsons is that the allegory represented by the name was that each member would bring their respective/individual magic, or “rabbit”, to the collective/communal “hat”, or the art as a whole. This was to be the unifying theme. Therefore, the club is always referred to as “Rabbit In Our Hat”. Now you know the “rest of the story!”
